Meet Sheryl Abshire, Ph.D.
Ed Tech Specialist, Thought Partner & Consultant
Sheryl is the recently retired Chief Technology Officer for the Calcasieu Parish Public Schools in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she built and led the district’s innovative technology department for over 20 years. She has served as a catalyst for technology integration throughout nation and internationally providing leadership on numerous national, state and district committees focusing on the role of technology and curriculum in changing educational practice. As a 40+ year veteran educator, she was a school principal, K-5 teacher, library/media specialist, classroom teacher, university professor and is now one of the first national ISTE Certified Educators and an Ed Tech Specialist, Thought Partner and Consultant. The FCC appointed her to the USAC board representing the nation’s schools/libraries on ERATE. She was the recipient of the National Coalition for Technology in Education/Training, NCTET Community Builder Award for exemplary service supporting policies/practices designed to facilitate effective technology integration into teaching/learning across nation’s education system. Sheryl was the first teacher inducted into our country’s National Teachers’ Hall of Fame, ISTE Making It Happen recipient, Top 100 EdTech Influencer by EdTech Digest. and served on the board and is past chair of CoSN. She is a fierce advocate for our schools and champions connecting ALL students with her work on the CoSN Policy Committee and the ISTE Policy Committee. Dr. Abshire was recently appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Education’s Technical Writing Team to develop the new National Ed Tech Plan. Sheryl is a sought-after speaker on educational and technology issues and has extensively presented and published nationally and internationally about funding, leadership, education, and technology issues.
